Solar Electricity / PV
Solar Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull & more
Thanks to recent improvements in development, solar energy has become one of the most cost effective and desirable way of generating clean and renewable energy. The power of the sun can be used to create everyday electricity or heating.

What is PV?
Photovoltaic (PV) power generating method converts sunlight into usable energy which can be used in the same way as any other type of electricity. PV cells can be attached to the roof or walls of your house. As sunlight shines on the cells, it generates electrical field across two semiconducting layers on the surface of the panel. This energy can then be transformed straight into the house's electrical supply.
The amount of energy generated by a solar system depends on the time of year and the degree of sunshine. On average, PV systems generate about five times more energy during the summer months than during the winter months. Basic home PV system can generate around 40% of the household's electricity supply. Access to your own power generator means you are more aware of your household's energy consumption which again results even more energy savings.
PV cell's strength is measured in units of kilowatt peak (kWp), which means the amount of energy that cell generates when in full sunlight. You can get panels in different colours and shapes. Contact Green World Installations today to find out more about the panels we offer. We are located in Birmingham, but provide services to all surrounding areas including Sutton Coldfield, Solihull and more.
The Main Benefits of Solar Electricity
- Renewable solar energy is good for the environment
- Low or no running costs
- Reduce electricity bills
- No planning permission required
- Scalable and portable
- We provide solar panels, heating equipment, boiler installations and other energy saving solutions to anywhere in the Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull areas & more

Commercial Solar PV Installations
Like domestic users, businesses can benefit from Feed in Tariff as well. Installing solar panels now means your business can earn money which not only will help you pay for your system, but works as extra income from your electricity supplier. Being less reliant on national electricity grid is a good business investment, because it proofs you against rising electricity costs.
The amount of savings depends on the size of your solar PV system. Commercial premises usually require larger system than household users, but unlike domestic users, businesses can offset the investment against company corporation tax profits. Having government backed Feed in Tariffs contract will also be advantageous if you are looking for financing your solar PV system.

Case Study: Solar PV Installation
Date of project: September 2010
Project Type: Private Installation
Description: Supply and Install 3.66 kw 18 panel on roof Ideal Thermasol PV system
The property is located in North Birmingham and is a 4 Bedroom detached privately owned dwelling with a South facing roof. The roof is a tiled and lath make up with a pitch of 35 degrees and no shading from trees or other properties making the dwelling suitable for the installation of PV.
The owner of the property had done some research on the internet for information on various types of Solar PV cells and whilst doing so came across Green World Installations Ltd. He contacted us and asked if we could provide a quotation which we readily accepted.
The customer had spent a lot of time researching the different types of PV products on various sites and had also found the Energy Saving Trust website useful in many ways.
Equipment used/specified:
18 no. Ideal Thermasol Solar Photovoltaic 200wp panels. The customer was keen for these PV panels as they are Manufactured in the UK. The project comes with a 10 year Manufacturers warranty and also offers a 25 year performance guarantee on the product.
A SMA 3300 Sunny Boy inverter manufactured in Germany by SMA Solar Technology. These are a leading brand with an efficiency rating of 95.6% with a 5 year warranty. The company does offer extra warranty cover of up to 25 years. This way very appealing to the customer.
The Generation metering unit A100C is manufactured by Elster. These are used for electric energy measurement in single phase and 2 wire systems in the home. They comply with all the relevant EU regulations.
The panels were mounted on aluminium rails which was fixed on roof by means of roof hooks. These roof hooks are designed specifically for concrete double roman interlock tiles.
Controls for the system included 2no. ac isolators, 2 no. dc isolators for the operation of the system and dc cable with M3 and M4 connectors
On the survey it was agreed that the inverter would be sited in the roof space on the gable end and the generation meter was to be installed in the garage next to the consumer unit.
The installation and testing took 1 ½ days to complete to the total satisfaction of the customer. What the customer was amazed with was very little disruption and inconvenience in the property.
Once the system was commissioned we provided a full installation handover pack which included the following:
- Letter to the customer explaining the handover pack
- PV commissioning test sheet
- PV array test report – dc circuits
- Electrical installation certificate – ac circuits
- Emergency shutdown procedures
- System installation schematic drawings
- PV Operation and maintenance installation manual
- PV inverter specification
- On roof mounting system
- MCS certificate
- MCS certificate for solar panels
- Copy of DNO notification pack
