Heat Pumps

EcologicalGround, air and water source heat pumps utilise the warmth from natural sources and so provide heating for rooms and in some cases water as well.

Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heating

Ground source heat pumps utilise the heat from the earth using a buried looped pipe that transfer heat into the desired space or in some cases pre-heated household water. The ground source heating system is designed to provide heating to the whole building and no external fuel is required. The pipe is buried in the ground, in a borehole or a horizontally in a trench. A mixture of water and antifreeze circulates in the pipe and absorbs the heat from the surrounding ground. Installing a ground source heating system depends on the available space for the ground loop outside your house. The space also needs to be suitable for digging either a borehole or a trench.

Ground source heating system can be combined to radiator system, but normally these types of radiators are larger than those used with regular boiler systems. Underfloor heating works at a lower temperature, and is so better suited to be combined with ground source heating.

Air and Water Source Heating

Water and air heat pumps source the heat from water or air respectively. Not relying on a collection system, simply extracting the required heat from the source.

Air source heat pumps generally perform better at warmer air temperatures, and work best when fitted on the roof space or outside of a house. These are more suited to smaller properties and are more efficient in applications where underfloor heating is or will be installed.
